About Hazeldean Training & Development
Hazeldean Training and Development was established in 2002, initially providing training and consultancy to mines using courses registered through external RTOs.
This included:
- Training of underground coal mine workers, especially in first response and self-escape.
- Conducting underground mock Emergency Exercises as required by legislation.
- Developing training packages and other procedures
In 2012 HTD became Registered Training Organisation 40500 mainly providing training for open-cut emergency response and rescue teams.
In 2020, Tony Hazeldean decided to concentrate on the training of underground mine officials with the assistance of Phil Reed.
Tony has over 50 years’ underground coal mining experience having worked at mines utilising the following mining methods and in various roles including:
- Bord and pillar extraction
- Place change mining
- Longwall mining
- Shaft sinking
- 25 years in mines rescue as a trainee and
- Superintendent
- Mine Deputy
- Undermanager
- Training Superintendent
Phil has over 40 years’ experience in all facets of underground coal mining including:
- Bord and pillar extraction
- Longwall mining
- Mines rescue
- Mine Deputy
- Undermanager
- Underground Mine Manager
- Site Senior Executive
As well as his other qualifications, Phil also has the UNSW Diploma of Mine Ventilation
